Innovative Breastfeeding Bench Placed in Burden Park

Breastfeeding Advocates of Cowley County (BACC) are excited to announce the placement of a breastfeeding bench in Burden Park. This is a specially designed bench that allows moms to feed their babies while still being able to view other children at the park.

BACC received a grant from the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition for the innovative idea. In addition to the shaded bench, there is an elevated changing station for ease of use.
BACC is thankful for their community sponsors including Agora Architecture for donation of the bench plans, City-Cowley County Health Department, Sunflower OB-GYN, PA and William Newton Memorial Hospital for their contributions. In addition, BACC is grateful to the Burden High School Shop class for the construction, assembly, and placement of the breastfeeding bench.
The breastfeeding benches normalizes breastfeeding. A mother may not take her children to the park when breastfeeding because the accessibility to a clean and comfortable place to feed her infant. Therefore, the other children may miss out on physical activity and socialization. BACC is a group that advocates for mothers, children, families. BACC wants to improve the day to day lives of families, mothers, and children and the addition this bench will begin a snowball effect into other areas of life.
